Fighting for the future: An approach to contemporary dystopian cinema under the parameters of the new feudal capitalism

Contemporary dystopian cinema draws on a long literary heritage and multiple influences from other dystopian films to present itself, now in the 21st century, from a new perspective. The objective of this essay is to unravel the new trends in dystopian cinema, analysed from a sociopolitical and economic perspective, especially under the so-called neo-feudalism or feudal capitalism. We will see, therefore, that new audio-visual dystopias present more radical features compared to previous approaches to the genre: Chaotic post-apocalypses, deep inequalities, or forceful revolutionary actions will be some of the new guidelines of the current dystopian genre, a genre permeable, without a doubt, to the growing environments of crisis and insecurity in which we live.
